STAFF at Moormead Nursing Home braved sitting in a bath full of beaked beans to raise money for their residents' fund.

Brave carers at the Moormead Road home in Wroughton held a fun day, which included the sponsored bath, wet sponge throwing, cake stall, raffle, tombola, barbecue and car wash and raised £486.

The money will be used to take their 21 elderly residents out on day trips through the year.

Carer Jane Knights, 46, was one of those to get into the bath of baked beans.

She said: "We sat in the bath for one-and-a-half-hours and it was absolutely disgusting.

"We only had our pyjamas on and it was cold and squelchy," Ms Knights said.

She added: "If that wasn't enough someone kindly poured beans on my head as well, but it was a good laugh. It started to rain in the afternoon, but that didn't put a dampener on the afternoon because everyone enjoyed themselves too much.

"It's important for our residents to get out and about, because for some it's their only chance to get out anywhere."

The carers try to take their elderly residents out on day trips as often as possible, but rely heavily on fundraising and donations.

Earlier this year they visited Bristol Zoo and the coach hire alone was £300.
