PUB-GOERS in Gorse Hill beware - the girls of St Trinian's are coming. But drinkers need not be alarmed, these girls are harmless, and will be collecting money for our Macmillan appeal.

Four game-for-a-laugh fundraisers will be donning school uniforms to collect cash for the appeal tomorrow night (Sunday).

The fundraising drive has been organised by Angela Wilson, 42, of Beech Avenue, Pinehurst.

Angela, who runs the Gorse Hill Working Men's Club with her husband Daniel, will be joined by her two daughters Leanne, 18, and Lisa, 19, and work colleague Charlie Payne, 20.

Angela decided to help the Swindon Cancer Appeal because she lost her mother to breast cancer 22 years ago at just 44 years of age.

Angela said: "When I lost my mum I also lost my best friend.

"We were very close, she was everything to me. I wanted to support the appeal to help other people with cancer.

"I have several friends who have been helped by Macmillan nurses, and I know how important they are to them.

"It is such a help to their families to know there is someone else there to help."

Angela's husband Daniel, 43, also lost a parent to cancer.

His father, John, died from prostate cancer 13 years ago at the age of 67.

The girls be visiting several pubs in Gorse Hill.

After leaving the Gorse Hill Working Men's Club in Chapel Hill at 7pm, the fundraisers will be visiting the following pubs: the Swiss Chalet, the Ferndale Working Men's Club, the Princess Hotel, the Vision Club, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Bridge End Club and the New Inn.

Besides the collection, Angela has also organised a fundraising night for women only.

She is holding an Ann Summers party upstairs at the Gorse Hill Working Men's Club starting at 7.30pm on Monday. Entry is £2, which will go to the appeal, and there will also be a raffle. Ten per cent of the proceeds will go to the appeal.

Angela said: "I just thought this would be a fun way to raise money.

"We're definitely not letting any men in!

"I'm sure it's going to be a good laugh, and I hope we raise a lot of money too."

Since its launch in March, the Swindon Cancer Appeal has raised £133,202.

The aim is to raise £600,000 in three years to pay for two Macmillan nurses and a consultant in cancer care for Swindon.

The money will fund the posts for three years, after which the NHS will take over.
