WHAT to say of the inaugural Swindon Show and Air Display. Perhaps it's better to leave that to a young visitor: "It's really good and there is so much to see and do."
With the Party in the Park on a temporary hiatus because of certain difficulties, a lot was riding on the weekend's show at Lydiard Park.
The organisers, along with the performers who entertained the crowds with everything from aerobatics to displays of expert horsemanship, must be delighted. The weather was fabulous, the people of Swindon turned out in their droves, and the entertainment kept all ages happy.
It was the latest in a series of summer entertainments throughout the area.
The choice has ranged from the spectacle of the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford to the tradition and pride of the Old Town Festival.
And let us not forget music events such as the series of World Music concerts at the Old Town Bowl, the latest of which, on Saturday evening, provided some of the best bhangra ever heard here and came after a day of live Asian music of all kinds.
We suggest that out readers write down a list of these events for the benefit of the next fool who complains that there is nothing going on here.
In entertainment, as in so many other things, Swindon and its people can more than do the job.
