A MAN aged 53 died after apparently losing control of his car and plunging 25 feet into allotments off Akers Way in Moredon.
The man, who lived in Moredon, was dead on arrival at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon.
The accident happened as he joined the roundabout at the junction of Purton Road and Akers Way.
The vehicle, a Renault 5, clipped the raised area and spun off in an anticlockwise direction around the roundabout before careering over the edge of an embankment, Swindon police say.
The car cleared two sheds, before hitting the ground. It rolled over several times before coming to rest.
The man was released from the vehicle by ambulance staff.
He died from serious head, chest and facial injuries.
Witnesses to the accident, which happened at 9pm on Saturday, should call PC Steve Love, of Swindon traffic police, on 01793 528111.
