JOHN Short, director of Swindon Services, has plunged into print (Letters, July 24) on the subject of garden waste sacks (green sacks).

He has, however, completely ignored my suggestion that the council should compost the contents thereof instead of depositing it on a landfill site with the general refuse.

This would set a good example to the public at a time when we are being encouraged to recycle as much as possible.

THEO GODFREY
