SWINDON Asians won Winterbourne Bassett's annual six-a-side cricket tournament, beating last year's winners Dreweatt Neate in the final.
Eight local teams Nationwide, Ramsbury, Monaghans, Dreweatt Neate, Not the Nationwide, Swindon Asians, Swindon Nalgo and Sheffield All Stars took part in the event.
Competing in two groups of four teams, each match being four six-ball overs per side, Dreweatt Neate, Swindon Asians, Swindon Nalgo and Sheffield All Stars progressed through to the semi-finals.
In the first semi-final Dreweatte Neate batted first and put on 45 runs without losing a wicket, Heelan top scoring with 33. This proved to be too much for Swindon Nalgo who were only able to reach 31 for the loss of four wickets.
In the second semi-final Swindon Asians won the toss and decided to bat first against Sheffield All Stars.
Asians made a total of 49-1, helped by four wide balls, which made up 16 of their runs. In reply Sheffield All Stars only managed 31-1.
In the final Dreweatte Neate won the toss and decided to bat first, and set a competitive target by finishing on 38-2.
Asians started their innings confidently with 15 runs coming from the first over. Runs continued to flow and Asians were able to reach their target of 39 without the loss of any wickets with five balls to spare, Jagi Chahal top-scoring with 21.
Winner of the Brent Colsell Memorial Trophy for the man of the final was Jagi Chahal, who bowled one over for the loss of just two runs and one wicket and then opened the batting and saw the team through to victory with his 21.
