IT was a day of delight and despair in the sun for many teams in the latest round of matches in the Wiltshire Cricket League.

There was delight for Lambourn in Division Four, who romped to a record 303-1 against Westbury 3rd, with Dan Boucher scoring another club record, 198 not out.

Also on a high were Swindon Litten Tree in Division Five as they gained a last-ball victory over Purton 2nd.

This completed a bad day for the Purton club, as the first team were shot out for 67, their lowest league score, against Calne in Division One.

Century-makers included Wanborough's Dave Haydon (101 not out), Highworth's Paul Bright (101) and All Cannings' under 14 batsman Ian Perrett (102).

DIVISION ONE

Calne retained top spot as they made 159-9 at Purton, with John Gladdins notching 70 not out and Nick Gardner taking 4-25.

Rob Anstey with a burst of 4-6 then helped shoot Purton out for their lowest ever league total of just 67.

Biddestone in third place bowled visitors Nationwide House out for 124, with Gordon Bedwell's 6-28 in 15 overs doing most of the damage.

An unbeaten half-century from the prolific Dwaine Perry then set up an easy seven-wicket win.

Burbage & ER moved off the bottom after defeating Potterne. Burbage scored 143 all out, with Russ Buck top scoring with 58, while Alan Sainsbury took 4-44 in 11.2 overs and Fred Kerley 1-28 in 15.

Potterne were restricted to 138-9 in reply as Roger Barker took 2-21 in 10 overs and they also suffered three run outs.

Division Two

Leaders Swindon Civil Service strengthened their hold as they defeated visiting Buscot Park by 21 runs.

Thanks to Andy Mildenhall's 42 and Shaun Smith's 36, Civil Service scored 188-6, Ian Mills taking 4-49.

Despite Hamish Millar's 65, it was the bowling of Nick Money which swung the game for the home side. He took 7-42 in 15 overs as Buscot were dismissed for 167.

Great Bedwyn took over in second place as they bowled hosts Urchfont out for just 66, to equal their lowest league score. The damage was done by Alan Turnell with 4-21 in 15 overs and Justin Bailey 4-24 in 15.

Only an obdurate 20 not out from Ebenezer Burt offered any prolonged resistance. He then however undid the good of his knock by flooring several chances as Bedwyn strolled to an eight-wicket victory.

Sutton Veny moved into joint third following their easy win at struggling Highworth. Scott Landis bowled well for Highworth, taking 4-38 in 13 overs as Sutton Veny were restricted to 147-9. However, a mean piece of bowling by Colin Grant, in which he took 4-9 in 11 overs, saw Highworth bowled out for 79.

Lechlade also won to creep back onto the fringe of the second place battle. Visiting Cooper-Avon Tyres were bowled out for 138 with Anthony Pettifer taking 2-38 in 15 overs and Nick Smith 3-9 in four. Smith with 68 not out and Charlie Langton 39 not out then helped Lechlade to a comfortable nine -wicket victory.

Division Three

Spye Park consolidated their position at the top as they defeated their hosts Dauntsey Gentlemen by 90 runs.

Alan Beal (59) and Tony Harding (31) helped Spye to 195-9 as Hugh Clemence took 5-47 in 12 overs. John Bathe responded with 5-34 in 14 overs to see Dauntsey bowled out for 105.

The meeting of second and third at Wroughton saw the home side gain a convincing victory to leap-frog visiting Seagry.

Seagry totalled 143-8 with Paul Lewis scoring 61 and Mark McMeeking taking 3-49 in 15 overs. Hendy Alleyne 66 not out, Stuart Redfern 27 not out and Mat Nettlefold (23) then saw Wroughton home by nine wickets with nearly four overs to spare.

Heytesbury travelled to Swindon 3rd and struggled for runs as Randy Roze took 6-13 in 14 accurate overs. Only skipper Justin Wagstaff with a top score of 36 enabled Heytesbury to total 115 all out.

Wagstaff then took 5-34 in 15 overs and, despite Gareth James' 41 not out, Swindon were dismissed for 107, leaving Heytesbury victors by eight runs with 12 overs remaining.

The bottom two sides picked up valuable points, with Moredon Royal Oak winning narrowly at home by four runs against Blunsdon, who were all out for 120, compared to Moredon's 116 all out.

Wanborough rattled up 233-3 at home to Bathford, thanks to Dave Haydon (101 not out) and Paul Sore (49). Andy Clinning then took 5-33 and Andy Thompson 3-35 to help dismiss Bathford for 144 with nine balls remaining.

Division Four

leaders Lambourn entertained Westbury 3rd and raced to their highest-ever league score of 303-1 thanks to Daniel Boucher, who was in unstoppable form as he crashed his way to a club record 198 not out.

He was ably assisted by Ian Hobbs (29), and Matty Turner 53 not out. Westbury were never likely to match this target but did well to reach 150-7 thanks to Ken Foster's 44 and Tom Smith's 34.

Avebury kept the pressure on in second place as they visited Corsham 3rd and came away with a 59-run win. Rob Gater's 52 anchored their innings of 186 all out as Corsham newcomer Dan Collier took 5-44 in 11 overs with his leg breaks.

A tight opening spell from Gater, 1-35 in 15 overs and Dominic Fry, who at one stage had conceded only nine runs in nine overs, put the brakes on the Corsham response and they could never pickthe run rate up as they closed on 127-6.

Division Five

Leaders Keevil and Litten Tree extended their lead at the top.

At Litten Tree, visiting Purton 2nd scored 185-7, Andy Diston top scoring with 56. Phil Tonks (2-48 in 12 overs) and Martin Sanson (3-43 in nine) were the pick of the home bowlers.

Adam Miles responded for Purton with 5-52 in 13 overs, and they looked well on the way to winning before Matty Dunn (40) and Sanson (18 not out) put on 71 for the ninth wicket to gain a one-wicket win off the game's last ball.

United Churches bowled hosts Buscot Park 2nd out for 132, Des Williams top-scoring with 34 and Neil Lang taking 5-34 in 14 overs. Churches went on to win by five wickets with 11 overs to spare.
