STAFF at Specsavers Opticians in Swindon proved that they had their eyes firmly on the ball when they claimed the title of Specsavers national football champions.
The six-strong team, all staff at the store in Havelock Square, made the journey to the JJB Soccerdrome in Derby where they played against teams from other Specsavers stores across the country.
As regular players in a Swindon six-a-side weekly league, the team relished the opportunity to show off their footballing prowess out of season at the Specsavers tournament.
Captained by lab technician Ben Hurwood, the team won all five of their games in the heats, including a 7-2 victory in the semi-finals.
And in the final the team proved more than a match for their Hanley branch, beating them 2-0.
Hurwood said: "As work colleagues it was great to do something socially, and on top of this we got to take the winner's trophy home. We will be back next year to retain our title."
All money raised on the day went to Sight Savers International.
