Swindon's survival hopes were dealt a shattering blow as they slumped to a poor Gloucestershire & Wiltshire League Division One defeat at Colwall.

With three sides set to be relegated, they must now win all of their remaining fixtures to have any hope of avoiding relegation.

Having enjoyed three wins in their last four games, skipper Will Nichols was full of confidence.

But Swindon failed to post a competitive total and then showed little discipline in the field as Colwall raced to an eight-wicket victory.

Nichols won the toss and elected to bat, and the Swindon opening pair of Brett Sydney-Smith and Darren Beasant put on 53 for the first wicket before Beasant was bowled.

The in-form John Baden joined Sydney-Smith and the pair took the score to 103 before Sydney-Smith was caught at slip for 53.

Skipper Nichols fell to a fine catch at leg slip and when Baden and Matt Baker fell in quick succession the innings began to falter.

Andy Reed and Roger Willoughby were then both adjudged leg before as Swindon capitulated from a promising position.

Tom Fox soon followed, holing out at extra-cover, and it was left to Paul Stoddard and Dan Willis to negotiate the remaining overs and add respectability to the total, lifting the final score to 156-9 off 50 overs.

Needing early wickets, Swindon's opening pair of Willoughby and Fox were unable to find a decent line and length and the Colwall innings started with a flurry of boundaries.

Willoughby accounted for the Colwall skipper Wolfendale leg before and when opener Powell was bowled by Stoddard, Swindon had a glimmer of hope.

But Colwall's overseas player Majeed came to the wicket and easily guided Colwall to victory with 12 overs and eight wickets remaining.

Swindon entertain high-flying Devizes on Saturday.

Swindon 2nd defeated Colwall by six wickets at the County Ground, to leave them firmly in the hunt for their title.

Colwall were dismissed for only 113 on a slow pitch, with Matthew Barrett taking 4-25. Despite a poor start, a patient knock of 46 not out from Simon Barnett guided the hosts home with four overs to spare.
