Specially adapted tape measures are being used by salmon anglers fishing Hampshire's rivers to measure the "weight" of their catch in the latest idea to protect the endangered Atlantic salmon.
The average relationship between the length and weight of the fish has been printed on the tape measure and allows the fish to be measured without even taking it out of the water. The weight can be easily read off the tape.
The special tape measures are available free from the Environment Agency in collaboration with Orvis fly fishing tackle manufacturers.
Details can be given to the agency about the fish which will help scientists estimate the amount of eggs that will be laid that winter and how long the fish has been at sea.
A substantial reward is being offered by an angler for the return of his Hardy De Luxe graphite fly rod left behind on Salisbury Angling Club's fishery at Lower Woodford last Wednesday night.
The rod, together with the reel and a landing net, was accidently left on the roof of the angler's car in the club car park.
Although the angler turned his car around as soon as he realised what he had done and returned to the car park there was no sign of the rod, reel or landing net.
If anyone has knowledge of the rod, or has it in safe keeping contact 01722 74245
