UNION bosses have called for a maximum limit on workplace temperatures.

As many workers suffer sweltering conditions in shops, offices and outdoors, the Trades Union Congress has asked for a limit of 30 degrees, or 27 degrees for those doing strenuous work.

Employers would have to take steps to reduce the temperature, or give workers more breaks when the heat reaches these levels.

The minimum level is 13 degrees for strenuous work and 16 degrees otherwise.

TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: "Sweatshop conditions can push workers to boiling point."
