TWO members of a local animal welfare charity are flying out to Mexico next month.
Swindon Animal Concern campaigners Marilyn Harrison and daughter Anish will fly out on September 7 as part of a delegation from Compassion in World Farming (CIWF). They will lobby ministers to change worldwide free-trade rules.
The World Trade Organisation (WTO), will hear requests from CIWF to allow member countries to introduce import bans.
Marilyn said current rules mean countries still have to import products from animals reared in cruel farming systems abroad.
Animal campaigners say WTO rules insist free trade takes precedence over areas of public policy, such as animal protection and the environment.
