Ref. 26038-JEROME1A breakdancer who learned the skill in Swindon has won a national competition.

Jerome Jackson, 25, is a member of the five-strong breaking crew which proved triumphant at this year's Sprite Urban Games.

Jerome, who was brought up in Old Town, said: "We are really pleased to win. Dancing for a living certainly beats a 9 to 5 office job."

Another member of the crew, Damien Hendrix, 29, was raised in Park South.

Together they demonstrated their break dancing prowess, also known as b-boying, at the three-day competition in Clapham Common last week.

Both members started breakdancing as teenagers and practiced their technique at the Plus One centre in Euclid Street.

They left Swindon to train at the Rambert School of Dance in London.

Jerome said: "We learned all styles of dance, including ballet, contemporary and jazz. Dancing is a strict discipline but also very enjoyable."

Today their talented footwork takes them as far afield as France and Holland. Damien said: "We compete in Europe and it's great being able to travel. The job is full of challenges because you constantly need to be original and think up moves."

This latest triumph means the crew will represent Britain at the International B-Boying Championships in Brixton this October.
