I'm not sure if the council listens to the voice of those of us who live here and try to get around, but it's becoming a nightmare month by month as new road calming measures appear as if by magic.

The argument for many of these additions such as traffic lights and extended kerbs may seem like a good idea, or be part of the whole concept of cutting down of traffic for the long term. The problem is time has moved on, many families have a car or two and have to shop or work by car.

Building over car parks, blocking turns and building out street edges may seem like it will make people think about taking their cars out but I do not think it does. All it does do is make the journeys that have to be made take longer and be more problematic.

Many people tell me about Swindon's famous non-driving road designer but no one seems to be able to find out why or how all these modifications appear. The money for all these roadworks must come from somewhere.

Would it not be prudent to have some kind of committee to stop this before we all end up in a permanent traffic jam.

I'm taking bets on when the next perfectly okay roundabout becomes a traffic light nightmare. Leave our roundabouts and roads alone! I'm sure that if overnight all this wasted time on road changes were taken out and our roads given back to us all we would find driving and shopping in Swindon a lot easier and enjoyable.
