SALISBURY Hockey Club players displayed some good pre-season form in a 13-team round robin tournament at the weekend.
They joined New Milton ladies in the mixed Madcows tournament at Blandford, playing eight 30-minute games in quick succession, seeing off Swanage, Blandford C, Poole B, Poole A, Portsmouth, Blandford B, Marlborough and Sonning A en route to the final against Hamble.
They eventually lost 2-0, but took some consolation from having given the winners their two toughest games of the weekend.
Training has been taking place throughout the summer and with 16 players regularly in attendance, competition for places will be fierce.
Official training for the men's and ladies teams started yesterday and continues on Wednesdays from 7pm at Skew Bridge.
