NORTH Wiltshire District Council wants to talk to police about involving community volunteers in running local speed checks.
Coun Dick Tonge proposed the scheme following the success of an initiative in South Gloucestershire where volunteers armed with speed guns checked the speed of motorists, sending letters to people breaking the speed limit.
A meeting of the full council on Tuesday agreed to back the plans.
"It's excellent that the council is backing this initiative," said Coun Tonge after the meeting.
"I am really looking forward to the discussion with the police and hope that we will be able to follow the lead from South Gloucestershire.
