A SIGN warning drivers to avoid a blind hedgehog around Mill Lane, Corston, was put up by caring residents last week.
Over the past few months, villagers have spotted a hedgehog that seemed to be blind or partially-sighted bumping into trees, posts and hedgerows.
The spiky creature is most commonly seen at night but has been spotted nosing around the undergrowth during the day, strengthening the view that it could be blind.
Villagers were so concerned of the danger to the hedgehog of passing motorists on Mill Lane that they put up a poster to warn drivers to be careful.
Frank Jowitt, 82, and his neighbour Howard Wilcox, were were responsible for putting up the poster.
Mr Jowitt said he would be sad if the hedgehog was run over.
He said: "It would be a pity if it were run over. I have seen it several times and it bumps into things.
"If you put food out, it will sniff around until it finds it. I have also seen it out during the day, which is very unusual."
Mr Jowitt said he had seen the hedgehog over the last couple of months but it may have been in the area since last year.
He added that it normally just walks from his property to his neighbour's but sometimes strayed further towards the road.
