SALISBURY & District Wednesday Evening League runners up South Newton beat the 2003 champions, Breamore at the South Wilts Cricket Ground last Wednesday to secure the HK Robinson Trophy.
Batting first, Breamore lost both the Marlow brothers cheaply - a substantial blow as Steve and Shaun have accumulated an astonishing 600 runs between them during the current evening campaign.
The rest of the Breamore batsmen found it difficult to score quickly against a tight bowling attack which was admirably backed up by agile South Newton fielding. Four of the Breamore wickets fell to run-outs and it was left to Paul Viet, 39, to nudge the champions' score to 104-5 in their allocated overs.
In reply South Newton seemed in command throughout.
Ian Huntley, 27, and Will Laws, 32, were the main contributors and despite a late wobble, they eased through to their target with two overs to spare.
The presentation of the league championship trophy, first awarded in 1905, and the H.K. Robinson Trophy to the two captains was made by league chairman Richard Moulding.
Breamore's Viet, for his 39 runs and two wickets for 18, was named as man of the match.
