A NATO adviser is likely to be sent back to the United States in disgrace after he admitted being drunk at the wheel of his car in Marlborough.
Darryl McDonal, 40, who is normally based in Stuttgart, Germany, pleaded guilty to driving while twice over the legal limit when he appeared before Kennet magistrates in Devizes on Monday last week.
Amanda Sawetz, prosecuting, said McDonal's Ford Focus car was stopped by police in the early hours of Saturday July 19 on the A346 outside Marlborough because he was driving slowly and erratically.
He failed a roadside breath test, was arrested and registered a level of 70 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when tested at a police station. The legal limit is 35.
McDonal was fined £560 and banned from driving for the minimum 12 months. He was also ordered to pay court costs of £55.
