THE future of Calne's police station in Silver Street will be decided at a meeting of the Wiltshire Police Authority next week.
Members of the finance and major projects committee will decide whether to go ahead with a scheme to share offices with the town council at Bank House.
If it is agreed to lease the council's premises, the existing police station could be sold.
Insp Simon Message, the Calne commander, said: "I hope that we can move into the offices. It would promote our relationship with the council, and also boost the police presence in the centre of town by increasing visibility and hopefully reducing some of the problems."
Police say the present station, which was built in the 1930s, is too far out of town. Nearly £82,000 has been spent keeping the police station open in the past five years.
