COACH driver Brian Jackson became a star at the weekend as a determined exterminator.

Mr Jackson, of West Lavington, built a life-sized Dalek called Ruby, and at the celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of Doctor Who at Longleat House on Sunday, he and 15 other proud Dalek owners put their creations on display.

Thousands of fans flocked to the event, and the Dalek owners re-enacted scenes from the popular series.

Mr Jackson, 32, said: "We re-enacted a few scenes and they were filmed by the Doctor Who Appreciation Society. A couple of the members were dressed as various Doctor Whos and we were chasing them around and exterminating them.

"The public were fascinated by the Daleks. We also lined them up and drove them around the courtyard."

Mr Jackson, who is single, only became interested in Daleks last year when he attended the annual Doctor Who Day at Longleat.

He said: "I got talking to someone there who built a Dalek and I was fascinated by it. When I was a child I was scared of Daleks."

Mr Jackson spent eight months building his Dalek from instructions he downloaded from the Internet.

The handmade Daleks have a voice modulator. Mr Jackson said when he spoke into the microphone Ruby's Dalek voice is realistic.

He said: "Although we say the word exterminate, which the Daleks are well known for, we also tell jokes and sing songs.

"People expect us to go off on a proper Dalek rant, but there's nothing more amusing than a couple of Daleks talking about EastEnders."
