THE members of Devizes Guardians have been monitoring the situation at Westbury Cement Works for some time.

Apart from burning tyres as fuel, the owners have now applied for a licence to burn waste solvents, known as recycled liquid fuel and classified as hazardous waste.

Since Devizes is directly in line of the chimney emissions, we feel there should be some questions asked as to how our community will be effected.

Kennet District Council and Kennet and North Wiltshire Primary Care Trust are both looking at this application to burn these solvents.

An Environment Agency Surgery is being held on August 18 in the Corn Exchange, Devizes from 1pm to 9.30pm, to answer your questions concerning this matter.

Nigel Carter, Devizes Guardian, Kennet district councillor and an expert environmental specialist, will also be there to ask questions on your behalf.

Further details can be obtained from Devizes Guardians, 25 Monday Market Street, Devizes SN10 1DN.
