RAY Baverstock wants to see his Swindon Supermarine side go one better than last year and lift the Wiltshire Premier Shield.

But first his troops must negotiate a tough first round tie against manager-less Chippenham Town.

The Bluebirds are yet to announce a successor to sacked manager Tommy Saunders, but Baverstock is just one of the many names to be linked to the job at Hardenhuish.

Baverstock refused to comment on the vacant position but was excited about the derby clash.

"It is a pleasent change from league action," said Baverstock. "We will face a strong Chippenham side and it should be a tough game.

"It's a local competition and you get the chance to draw someone like Salisbury or Swindon Town so we take it seriously.

"However, it is also a chance to try a few things out ahead of the next league game. Sometimes a game like this is even better than training.

"But it's a competition we want to win. Marine got to the final last year but lost, hopefully this year we can go one better."

Jimmy Carter is the only absentee from the Marine side that drew 0-0 at home to Taunton at the weekend.

Bluebirds' caretaker boss Adie Mings said: "It's a welcome break from the league.

"It will be nice for the lads to get together for a game with no pressure and go out and express themselves. It's a chance to get some confidence and hopefully a few of the fringe players can give me a selection problem.''

Meanwhile in the Les Phillips Cup, Corsham travel to Keynsham.

In last night's tie, Calne Town moved into round two with a 2-0 win over Larkhall Athletic.

JODY Bevan bagged a superb hat-trick as Cirencester Town moved smoothly into round three of the Dr Martens Cup with a 3-0 home win over Clevedon Town.

Bevan blasted home an early penalty, after Gareth Hopkins was brought down and repeated the trick in the second half when James Constable was upended.

Five minutes from time, he completed his treble with a curling shot.

In the Hellenic League, Highworth were 2-0 winners over Abingdon in the Premier Division, but Wootton Bassett crashed by the same score at home to Pewsey Vale.

Fairford host Almobdsbury Town tonight.
