SWINDON CANCER APPEAL: The Swindon Cancer Appeal which yesterday passed the £200,000 mark, means we are a third of the way to our target.
And fundraising events in and around Swindon are still being organised with gusto.
A group of belly dancers are preparing to gyrate their way to earning more cash for the appeal during a two-hour display tomorrow.
The dancers will be demonstrating the ancient art form at Shaw Village Church Hall in Ramleaze Drive.
The event has been organised by Sue Bickell, who has been belly dancing for nine years.
Sue, 36, of Gortons Road, Middleleaze, runs a monthly belly dance group and said: "It's a really good form of exercise, and I love it. It doesn't matter how big or small you are. Anyone can do it."
Sue felt inspired to help Macmillan Cancer Relief after seeing nurses care for her father, Laurie Bickell, who died of bowel cancer at the age of 80. Sue, a mature student, said: "The nurses were wonderful. They were like members of the family."
The belly dance takes place between 11am and 1pm. A collection will be made for the appeal. Sue will also be giving advice to anyone thinking of taking up the pastime.
