Ref. 27756-15AN extra day off work is up for grabs in an effort to raise cash for children with cancer.

Cancer and Leukaemia In Childhood, or CLIC, is looking for Swindon businesses to sign up for a Win a Day off Work raffle.

And the charity is being helped in its quest by Swindon Town players Andy Gurney, Steve Robinson and Matt Hewlett, who hosted the event's launch at Best Western's Chiseldon House Hotel on Tuesday.

Swindon Town captain Andy Gurney said: "I'm sure most people could do with an extra day off work and now they have the chance to win one.

"It was a pleasure being involved and I hope lots of people buy a ticket to help children with leukaemia."

CLIC's Community Fundraising manager Andy Jarrett said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has a job in Swindon to support CLIC by buying a raffle ticket and having a very real chance of winning a day off work."

The event also offers the organiser of each raffle a chance of winning a short break at a Best Western hotel in Great Britain.

John Hawken, proprietor at Chiseldon House, said, "We believe this is a fantastic idea for people everywhere to get together and help raise vital funds to support CLIC's work with children with cancer and leukaemia."

Jade Hatt, nine, of Liden, was diagnosed with leukaemia in December 1999.

Her mother Linda Isaacs said: "CLIC is a great charity that has helped us tremendously over the years.

"Without CLIC we couldn't have got through Jade's treatment.

"The charity has helped keep the family together."

Tickets for the raffle, which will be held in December, cost £1.
