THE Kennet and Avon Canal at Bedwyn on Sunday saw the fourth round of the Wessex Winter League.

It was a fine November's day with very little wind and the canal was carrying a good colour in the water.

The weighing in sheets were impressive with over 660lb of fish caught throughout the match length.

Vince Grillo, of Isis A team, had the end peg at Iron Bridge. Fishing three metres to hand, Vince caught roach and gudgeon for a match winning weight of 11lb 9oz. Mick Olden, fishing under the Devizes Red banner, also had bits for 10lb 11oz drawn next to Vince.

Nigel Sawyer, of Rover Coleview, took third spot individually from the end peg in B section at the cottages.

After losing a bonus fish towards the end of the match, Nigel geared himself up for them and landed a tench first put in for a 10lb 4oz mixed bag. Gary Laidler fishing for the Swindon Tribe in D section at Potters weighed in at 10-2-8 for 4th and 5th was John Bohane of Talisman Gold with 9lb 12oz also in D section.

Swindon Tribe have won the last three of the Wessex Winter League's closing the gap to one point in the aggregate stakes.

They were top team on the day with 11 points to include two section winners, a second in section, a third and two fourths in section.

Hot on their heels were Devizes White on 105 points with five out of six anglers all having 18 points for third place in sections.
