CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: FOURTH Division FC Bradford completed one of the shock results of the day in the first round of the PPL Presto Print sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup.

They went into their game with Division One outfit Semington Rovers as huge underdogs, but on a day of giantkilling acts they ended with a fine 4-2 victory.

Despite playing the first 45 minutes with only nine players Semington led 2-0 thanks to a brace from Dan Phillips. Although Semington were up to 10 men in the second period they were unable to prevent Bradford from hitting back to claim a memorable win. Robin Walker (2) Jason Harford and Wayne Duggan, who scored with an exquisite finish from 18 yards, sealed the unexpected victory.

Third Division Hare and Hounds put an end to the hopes of reigning Premier Division champions The Duke Corsham.

Although the Duke were nowhere near being at full strength they should have still had enough quality players to have avoided being eliminated from the cup so early on.

Tim Wootton met Niall McLean's cross to put Devizes-based Hare and Hounds ahead, but Paul Clifford tied the scores before Martin Blackman put the Duke in the driving seat and with time running out it should have been a formality for the them to hold onto their advantage.

But the Hounds, with a new belief in themselves this season, threw caution to the wind and equalised in the 83rd minute when McLean who got on the end of a Wootton corner.

The Hounds' winner came late in the game from Lee Nott who unleashed a stunning strike from 18 yards.

Fellow Third Division side Parsons Nose produced another major upset by seeing off First Division Maud Heath Sports 1-0.

Gavin Bailey scored the only goal of contest direct from a corner.

In the battle of the Premier Division heavyweights Sherston Town travelled to West Lavington and gained revenge over Neil Hillier's side who last week inflicted on them their first loss of the season in a 3-2 victory from an ill tempered game that saw three players sent off.

With no repeat of the antics of last week Sherston set about Lavington from the off and at the final whistle were worthy of their 4-0 victory.

Lee Bevis Ed Wilkins Danny Beck and Anthony Vizard scored the goals.

Premier Division strugglers Winsley suffered their eighth defeat of the season as they went down 2-1 at home to The Horse and Groom. Phil Fry bagged Winsley's goal in his first game of the season with Paul Bendell (penalty) and Paul Daly scoring for the First Division side.

Division Four newcomers Pack Horse battled bravely before they were sent packing by Second Division leaders North Star A who sparkled throughout their 5-3 win.

Cup holders All Cannings A eased into the final 16 with a comfortable 8-0 victory over Division Four side Rowde.

First Division front runners Biddestone Social, who toppled Box Rovers in the last round, defeated Corsham Park Rangers 5-3 to make it into the second round draw.

Sir Audley's Arms' sportsmanship was outstanding throughout their game with Dog and Fox Ashley despite being crushed 8-0. The Third division side had no answer to the Bradford side's greater fitness and experience and they found themselves trailing after just 90 seconds when Mark Gerrish scored. Steve Wickins added a further four, with Ricky Trott, Gerrish and veteran Matt Cottrell sharing the others.

Matt Bradley's 25-yard screamer was of little consolation to Blue Circle Saints who were hammered 13-1 by Bradford News. A goal after 42 seconds from Jake Davison for the Newsmen was cancelled out by Bradley's strike before the floodgates opened. Russell Francis, Charlie Powell and Andre Thomas all bagged trebles with Davison adding his second before John Burt and Steve Rendell completed the rout.

Westbury Rangers A needed extra-time before overcoming Trowbridge Harriers 2-1. Paul Smith (Rangers) and Paul Edwards (Harriers) traded goals before Paul Beavers netted Rangers' extra-time winner.

Fourth Division leader Kings Arms were unable to reproduce their impressive league form against Second Division Steeple Ashton. Scott Askew scored the Arms' consolation from the penalty spot while Lee Hayward (2), Marc Sheppard and Adam Sheppard netted for the winners who owed their victory to a great all round team performance.

Things could have been a lot worse for the Kings Arms had their goalkeeper Dan McClurg not performed heroics between the sticks in the first period before being substituted at the break.

Chippenham Police received a walkover into the next round at the expense of Pig and Whistle United who were unable to raise a side for their proposed clash.

BOX Rovers blew their chance to claim pole position as Terry's FC took revenge for their 4-1 drubbing last month with a 4-1 win of their own to dent Box's title challenge.

Terry's settled quickly and always looked to have the advantage on the tight Stallards pitch. After seven minutes they took the lead when Robbie Allison rose well at the back post to head Jamel Massaoud's free kick back into the box, where Iain Winterbottom pounced to head home from close range.

Minutes later Terry's made it 2-0 when Chris Gale powered a header home. Box responded but were unable to find a way past Russell Stritch and Gale in Terry's defence. Terry's moved further ahead just after the interval when Ross Pugh intercepted a poor throw-in before flicking the ball past the advancing goalkeeper and into the empty net.

Box were much improved after the break, but their finishing lacked accuracy and when they did find the target Terry's goalkeeper Mark Binns was equal to anything they could throw at him.

Chris Gale wrapped the game up for Terry's on the hour when he powered home another bullet header home to make it 4-0.

Terry's then sat back which allowed Box to grab their consolation in the dying moments with a near post header from Tom Smith.

Hopefully this result will spur Terry's onto greater things and end their fears of withdrawing from the league due to a shortage of players.

NIGEL Hudd's consolation goal for Wingfield in their 3-1 away defeat at Chippenham Sports and Social Club means he has now scored in every season for the past 27 years.

Wingfield, who struggled to field a side had to include old timers Hudd and Ted Miluk in their line up from the start, fell behind to first half goals from Darren Whiston and Gary Blackwood and it looked as if they could suffer a heavy defeat, But when Hudd struck to reduce the gap, Wingfield's makeshift side had visions of repeating their success over the Sports on the final day of last season which handed the Division Two runners up spot to Biddestone.

Wingfield suffered a further injury blow when they lost player/manager Paul Cantello and with no substitutes it came as no surprise when Vinny Ryan scored a third goal for the Sports.

Atworth United gave West End Wanderers a two goal start before hitting back to snatch a 2-2 draw. Tom Staddon and Dave Jenkins sent Wanderers in at the interval 2-0 to the good with Rob Fox scoring his first goal of the season for Atworth and Dan Adams earning them a point with a super individual strike.

STEVE Ivin returned to haunt his former club Roadrunners FC as his hat-trick helped fire his new side Southwick Sports to a 6-0 victory.

Jamie Moth and a double from Dan Alford made up Southwick's half dozen. Ivin has now scored six goals in two games since making his debut for Southwick.

Holt FC have rekindled their hopes of a third consecutive title after their 6-1 defeat of Sutton Benger moved them into fourth spot behind North Star A, North Bradley and Corsham Centre who all remain unbeaten.

Billy McClay and a glancing header from Stuart Faint were part of Holt's six before the usual suspects of Tom Pang (2), Neil Grant and Alan Fodder took over to wrap up an easy win. Ricky Kershaw replied for Benger.

Gary Neate's first ever hat-trick for Spencer Sports helped them arrest a run of two defeats as they beat Somerford 5-1. John Beattie's first goal for the club and another strike from Tim Knight capped their five-star performance.

COOPER-AVON gained instant revenge over Westbury Rangers B who beat the tyremen 3-1 last week.

This time around it was Cooper's turn to secure their first win of the season which saw them relegate Rangers back to the foot of the table.

Shane Thornton, Andy Morrison and Mark Fitchen sent the champagne corks popping for the side whose last win was against Rowde way back in May when a 1-0 win was good enough to keep them in Division Three. Shane Rendell was on target for Rangers.

Ben Husband's 16th goal of the campaign could not prevent Old Lane United from suffering a 5-1 loss at home to leaders Four Seasons. The prolific pairing of Paul Maddox and Marcus Young scored two goals apiece against their former club with Jason Cole adding the fifth.

Andrew Beavan-Wicks' first goal for Potterne was all that it took to separate the villagers from Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club and earn them their third 1-0 victory of the season which moved them into second spot in the table.

CLASSIC FC are showing signs that they should be taken as serious title challengers.

Currently in fourth place after their 4-2 victory over local rivals Fascia Graphics, they are just three points behind the leaders Kings Arms, who have played a game more.

Virgin Mobile suffered a surprise loss away to White Horse FC which saw them blow the chance to close the gap at the top of the table.

Virgin had Matthew Stevens sent off for a deliberate handball on the line and the resulting penalty was converted by Chris Sims to put the Horse in front. Julian Putt (2) and Mark Pugh scored for the Westbury based side before Dan light fired home a late penalty for Virgin.
