THE manager of Warminster's Tourist Information Centre is calling for better signs to help disabled visitors find their way around the town.
Sheelagh Hardy, who has run the service since 1988, says poor signage has seen many visitors become frustrated and fail to make the most of facilities.
When drivers entering the town follow signs to the TIC they are directed to the town's western car park, which is a 10-minute walk away. Although this is to ensure the central car park, where the TIC is based, does not become too clogged, Ms Hardy feels it causes particular problems for disabled or elderly visitors.
She said: "That 10-minute walk from the western car park can be quite an effort if it's raining or if the sun is baking down as it has been this year.
"We've had the same feedback from quite a few people who have found it very frustrating. When they find a free two hour car park just outside the door they find it even more frustrating.
"People who are on holiday want to use every minute of their time for a purpose not trying to find their way to the TIC."
She also believes wheelchair users are getting a raw deal in the town.
She said: "There is only one toilet for disabled people in the town and there are no signs telling you where to go. We have got an absolutely excellent Shopmobility scheme, but there is nothing that tells visitors to the town that there is one here."
