A FINE imposed on a taxi driver for having no insurance should act as a warning to others, says a councillor.
Carl Ley, 33, of West Street, Warminster, was fined £300 and ordered to pay £250 costs after admitting not having insurance between April 4 and 22.
Ley, who has since left his job with his then employers, was warned he could lose his licence to carry passengers if he re-offends.
The prosecution was brought by West Wiltshire District Council, the taxi licensing authority.
Cllr Richard Wiltshire, the environmental services portfolio holder, said: ""It is very disappointing that a member of the licensed taxi trade should put his passengers at risk like this, and I hope this case serves as a warning to all other drivers that we do make checks and we will prosecute if necessary."
