STARS from BBC TV shows could be dropping in to Trowbridge to help staff at Virgin Mobile take pledges for Children in Need.

The firm's flagship call centre, on the White Horse Business Park, will be awash with star quality on Friday, when it is transformed into the joint biggest pledge centre in the UK matched in size only by the BT Tower in London.

Celebrities from EastEnders or Casualty could be dropping in depending on TV schedules, together with top-name sports stars.

Organisers are remain- ing tight-lipped about the stars' identities but BBC bosses have given the all-clear for TV stars to attend.

Up to 200 people will be manning 120 phone lines taking pledges for the annual charity night, including friends and family of staff members.

A magician and a local band will be recruited to entertain staff on the night and Tesco and McDonald's will provide call operators with food and drink throughout the event.

Virgin spokesman Lisa Cogdell-Brown said: "The atmosphere will be

fantastic.

"When we raised money for Comic Relief the buzz went round employees for days. Everyone donating money will keep us going and we will put on lots of games and activities to keep people entertained.

"We have not confirmed which celebrities will be with us on the night but we hope a few show up."

Virgin Mobile staff hosted a fun day on Wednesday to raise money for the national charity event.

Bosses will auction themselves off as slaves for the day, with employees able to order their superiors to make tea, file paper and photocopy forms.

An in-house auction will boost the charity fund with football tickets, official Barclaycard Premiership footballs and a giant cuddly fish from Disney's Finding Nemo, among a clutch of prizes.

A whole host of events are planned across west Wiltshire to raise money for Children in Need's 2003 event.

Staff at Asda will hold an in-store raffle, dress-up and parachute jump to raise funds, with Wilbur the Wiltshire Times alligator paying a visit to their Trowbridge store to help out.
