THE next generation of fighter pilots could be coming from a Park North primary school.
What started out as letters from children to airmen serving in the Gulf has developed into a lasting friendship between the RAF's 39 (1 Photographic Reconnaissance Unit) and Goddard Park Primary School.
The ground crew were so moved by the letters they received in spring while serving in Iraq they pledged to visit the school to thank the youngsters.
And they were so impressed with the children's enthusiasm they now hope to forge permanent links with the school, starting with a second visit next month.
The ground crew plan to bring models, photographs and displays and talked about the RAF and what it is like to serve overseas.
Headteacher Mike Welsh said: "We are delighted with what the squadron have done.
"They explained that weapons are only used as a last resort and act as a deterrent.
"The crew were moved by the letters they received and want to continue the relationship."
