HIGHWORTH were the winners of the weekend's outstanding Wiltshire Senior Cup tie with a 1-0 extra-time triumph over Melksham.
John Fisher's side had lost 3-0 at the Conigre at the semi-final stage last season but Paul Hunt's 118th-minute goal handed Highworth revenge and put them through to the second round.
Veteran Hunt had squandered the best opening during 90 goalless minutes, missing a second-half penalty.
But with a shootout looming, he atoned by sliding in the winner from close range.
Melksham almost forced a last-gasp equaliser but John Reeves cleared a goal-bound effort of the line.
Highworth boss Fisher said: "I offered to take Oggy (Hunt) off after 90 minutes but he said 'keep me on and I'll get you the winner' and he was true to his word."
Purton suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat at Downton, ending their superb 25-match unbeaten run.
Another late goal proved Purton's downfall, along with the dismissal of key striker Eurshall Fearon after 20 minutes.
Purton boss Alan Clark said: "We played really well and took the game to them. We hit the bar three times and the post but it just wouldn't go in for us.
"We conceded late again which is something we've got to sort out but 25 games unbeaten can't be bad."
Cricklade took a two-goal lead at Pewsey with two strikes from Ben Carter but the home side pulled a goal back just before the break through Justin Messenger.
Matt Messenger levelled the scores 10 minutes into the second half and with extra-time looming Barry Flippance hit the winner three minutes from time.
Chiseldon Castrol rode their luck in the first half against Wootton Bassett and were leading 1-0 at the break from a strike by CJ O'Connell.
Fitness began to tell as the second half wore on and Bassett netted twice to ensure a place in the second round.
Bassett manager Pete Yeardley said: "It was a good work out for us and credit to Castrol they set their stall out well. But we got the win and that's the main thing."
Wroughton lost 6-0 at Westbury, with Tony Colbourne (4), Wayne Wheeler and Steve Perkins scoring.
Trowbridge Town had the upper hand against visitors Biddestone running out 3-0 winners. Dave Percival (2) and Mike Little the scorers. Marlborough lost 3-0 underlights at Devizes in midweek.
Wanborough United beat neighbours Aldbourne Reserves 5-2 in the third round of the Fountain Trophies Junior Cup.
Goals came from Richard Merchant, Martin Grounsell, John Anglis, Steve Shaw and an own goal.
