Ref. 27831-84RUSKIN Junior School has been praised for its excellent standards in music and physical education in its recent Ofsted report.
The inspectors considered the teaching and management to be good and that the school offered a rich and balanced curriculum.
Other areas praised were achievements in art and ICT as well as provision for pupils with special educational needs.
The report highlighted two main areas for improvement, which were attainment in maths and English as well as celebrating cultural diversity.
The school was one of the first inspected under a new framework that gives inspectors much less time to conduct their inquiries.
As a consequence fewer areas of school life are looked at in detail.
Headteacher Creighton Muirhead welcomed the favourable report but had reservations about the new method of inspection.
He said: "It is a good report, we are delighted with that.
"They have recognised our real strength in inclusion and the provision we have for children with special needs, particularly autism.
"Other inspections have been much more helpful in moving us forward.
"They had less time so they didn't have time to look at all our subjects."
He and the governors wanted to thank the staff for their hard work and parents for their support.
