Ref. 27828-2THE Commonweal School has produced a book celebrating its 75th anniversary.
From sports team photographs to humorous anecdotes, the book encapsulates the history of the school, in The Mall, Old Town, since it first opened on September 5, 1927.
Pupil Katie O'Brien, 12, said: "I am looking forward to reading it. It is fascinating to see how the school has developed over the years."
Fellow pupil Sophie Holland, 13, was equally enthusiastic about the project, which has taken more than a year to complete.
In all 2,000 of the 136-page books have been printed and will soon be for sale.
Margaret Anderson, Sue Taylor, Beverley Parsons, Mike Stubbs and Noreen Bint all helped gather the material, which includes contributions from former and current teachers and pupils.
The Commonweal School cost £39, 477 16 shillings and one penny to build. The book features a list of the equipment bought ready for the school's opening.
It also displays the diversity of drama productions, such as A Midsummer Night's Dream and Grease. Former pupil Justin Hayward is mentioned because he went on to become the lead singer for a hit 1970s supergroup, The Moody Blues.
Sue Taylor said: "The book has proved a huge undertaking, but one of which we are very proud. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed."
The book, priced at £12.95, can be bought at the craft fair at the school on Sunday between 11am until 4pm. For more information call Swindon 612727.
