SCORES of protesters are expected to turn out in Swindon tomorrow to voice their anger at George Bush's four-day visit to the UK.

The US president arrives in Britain today, hoping to meet families of British servicemen who were killed in the recent Gulf War.

The Swindon Stop the War Coalition is planning a series of demonstrations, kicking off at midday tomorrow with a protest outside the war memorial in Regent Circus.

Anti-war protesters will perform street theatre dressed at Mr Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair.

On Thursday, members will make their way to London for a national demonstration.

Then in Swindon at 6pm, a statue of Mr Bush erected outside the Debenhams store in The Parade will be toppled.

Coalition secretary Andy Newman said: "A number of relatives of those who died have said that they blame Bush for the death of their loved ones.

"He has pushed this war for his own reasons. We all need to protest against this visit it is an insult to the millions of people who objected to it in the first place."

Last Saturday Mr Newman led the group in an international protest held in Paris.

It was attended by anti-war groups and trade unions from across Europe.

"The clear message from the demonstration was that George Bush is not welcome in Europe," he said. "We went because the campaign against the war is an international one and we need to build friendships with different countries.

" A lot of people came to talk to us because they had never heard of Swindon and wanted to know about us"

The visit will come as a headache to police and security forces already stretched to the limit.

Scotland Yard has confirmed that it is to draft in an extra 9,000 officers which will more than double the usual police presence on the streets of the capital while Mr Bush is in town.
