RE The Swans in Lawn Woods: I am pleased to learn that two young men have been apprehended.
I am sure that like us, very many local residents have derived much pleasure these last few months from watching the swans mate and then the six cygnets growing from chicks.
Like so many others we retain our bread scraps to feed to the many birds nearly on a daily basis.
We were horrified and deeply saddened by this cruel and mindless act of vandalism. I read that the young men are remorseful and regret this act. May I suggest through your newspaper an appropriate sentence would be 200 hours of community service devoted to a complete sweep of the whole Lawn Woods area to remove all the waste litter, tins, plastic.
This is the best time of the year because the litter becomes very visible now that the undergrowth is dying down.
