SPORTS stars, athlete Du'aine Ladejo and top judo player Kate Howey opened the long awaited £1.5 million extension at Kings Lodge primary School in Chippenham.
Wiltshire's largest primary school, with 492 pupils, has had to put up with eleven classes using mobile classrooms. The new extension has seven new classrooms and a hall large enough to accommodate the school assembly.
The opening coincided with the visit by Commonwealth 400m medal winner Mr Ladejo for the Superschools initiative, which promotes sport and PE.
The opening was a proud moment for pupil Samuel Davies, who chose names relating to the Anglo Saxon history of the area. The old building will be called the Great Wood, the new building Guthrum's Copse, the link will be called King Alfred's Chase, and the remaining mobiles, the Green Wood.
