MARK Hervin feels the first step in turning round Chippenham Town's season is for players including himself to start stamping out individual errors.

The former Bath City goalkeeper had a busy return to league action at home to Stafford Rangers on Saturday after rival Pat Mountain was ruled out with a knee injury.

The Bluebirds were 3-0 down at half-time in what was one of their poorest 45 minutes of the season.

Hervin admitted it had not been an easy introduction back to first team action.

"It was a busy afternoon but you expect that, especially where we are in the league and where they are," he said.

"You've got to want to keep your place in the team. I was disappointed to be left out anyway.

"Part of it was because I had a slight injury bit it's funny how football changes in a week.

"The first goal came through a crowd but I was a bit disappointed not to get anything on it. It was a free shot but I've got to put my hand up for that as well."

Hervin agreed that individual errors had cost Chippenham the chance of taking anything from the game.

"That's been the story all year really. We have played well and then all of a sudden conceded poor goals," he added.

"As well as you play individual errors count especially when you are down the bottom they seem to show up.

"When you are nearer the top someone comes round and covers for you. But that's just how it is and we've got to work at it now really.

"Stafford are a good team and league tables don't lie. We are down in the bottom three because we probably deserve to be."

Hervin firmly believes Chippenham can haul themselves back up the table and into contention for promotion to the restructured Conference.

"We've got Merthyr this weekend and we should have beaten them out here. We've got to go there and that's points we've got to win now," he added.

"We are in a little mini-league if you like. The top ten has probably gone a little bit now but we've got to try and be as high up as we can in the next ten.

"There's a long way to go there's over half the season to go yet. If you put two or three wins together all of a sudden you are looking back on other people.

"I'm sure it's not impossible if we keep working hard because we've got the players and we've got the ability.

"If we get a bit more belief hopefully we can start shooting up the league."
