A MAN seen wandering round the centre of Calne wielding two large kitchen knives was arrested on Saturday night after a brief struggle.
Officers said the man appeared to be searching for his brother and was raving about his sibling as he wandered outside Sainsbury's, in The Pippin.
Two women police officers caught up with the man, who they said appeared to be highly agitated, in the High Street, and took hold of him. When he tried to break free, they overpowered him.
Wpc Rachel Jennings said she and her colleague discovered a pair of 10ins kitchen knives tucked into the man's back pocket and arrested him for the possession of offensive weapons.
"He wasn't brandishing the knives when we found him, but he looked very angry," she said.
"It looks like his behaviour may have been in response to some kind of family feud."
Wpc Jennings praised the public who telephoned the police station to say they had seen the man walking around with two large knives.
She and her colleague were alerted when a passer by flagged down their police car and showed them the direction he was heading.
The WPC said the public did the right thing by calling the police and avoiding a confrontation with the man.
