WHEN focused Devizes produced some deep, probing and simply stunning runs but they were punished during their moments of inattention.

Alastair Broughton put Devizes ahead following a wonderful, jinking run from Guy Davies.

Supermarine quickly drew level before Bryn New went on a head down solo crusade and sliced through the Supermarine defence to score his first of two tries.

Supermarine became stronger and aided by some benevolent refereeing slowly marched ahead during the second half despite Thomas Jaggs making good ground to put Alastair Broughton over for his second try of the meeting.

It was a great game to watch, and with further tries from Ben Poulton, and Guy Davies. Devizes could easily have taken it. But sadly for them they were made to pay every time they dropped their guard.

Devizes U 9 2

DIRECT from the kick-off, Supermarine attacked through the middle but Devizes defended their line well.

After soaking up the early pressure, the tables were turned and after a couple of sprints up field Devizes were unlucky not to score.

The first try of the game went to Supermarine though who broke from their line going one-nil up midway through the first half.

Devizes spent the rest of the half attacking and got their reward just before half time when winger Daniel Tyler wrestled the ball from a maul and sidestepped his way over the line from 10 metres.

Good handling from the re-start lead to Supermarine running in a quick try to retake the lead.

This was cancelled out quickly with Toby Lock crossing the line after a characteristically powerful tackle-breaking solo run.

Devizes had most of the possession and territorial advantage in the second half and showed good attacking flair but unfortunately they couldn't find the finishing touch and Supermarine managed to score three tries from breaks from well within their own half.

The final score certainly didn't reflect a good organised effort from Devizes who are showing signs of improvement. They went on to play against Supermarine Under 10s, only losing by a couple of tries to nil.
