CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: LEADERS Sherston Town missed out on opportunity to move clear at the top of the Premier Division of the Vanitec Computers-sponsored Chippenham Sunday League.
With second placed Box Rovers unable to field a team for their clash at All Cannings A, victory for Sherston at home to Hullavington would have put breathing space between them and Box, but after a tough game with Hullavington they had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
Darren Legg hit a goal in each half for Hullavington while Andy Wicks and Antony Vizard hit Sherston's goals.
Terry's FC followed up last week's win over Box with another fine performance that saw them defeat reigning champions The Duke Corsham 2-1.
The first half saw many chances for both teams but with neither side being able to find the target the game remained at 0-0 at the interval.
Terry's grabbed the lead in the 70th minute with a goal of rare quality from Richard Clarke. After some good build up play the ball was fed to Clarke and an excellent first touch was followed by a fiercely driven shot on the turn which flew into the net.
A rare error from Terry's keeper Mark Binns gifted the Duke their equaliser. The normally reliable man mountain spilled the ball to Luke Chapman whose quick instincts allowed him to prod the ball home.
Terry's hit back immediately from the restart when a deep cross from Clarke was met with a flying header from Matthew Arnold that was enough to earn Terry's another great win.
Calne Town remain in the drop zone after losing 3-0 at home to Bradford News.
Division Two
CORSHAM Centre are the new leaders after they defeated Biddestone Arms 5-1.
Biddestone, who started the game slowly, found themselves trailing through a Simon Grey strike after just 10 minutes.
Corsham had to wait until the 70th minute before adding their second, with Kevin Brown heading home from a corner.
Dean Fry drilled home a trade mark free kick to reduce the gap with only 15 minutes left. Biddestone went looking for an equaliser and had to ride their luck when the Centre were awarded a penalty which James Lye missed.
With only five minutes left the Centre struck three times through Nigel Evans, Luke Denham and Grey to wrap up a fine win against a stubborn Biddestone side.
A hotly disputed penalty two minutes from time gave Holt a 3-2 win away at Spencer Sports. Tom Pang's opener for Holt was cancelled out by Royston Aust's first goal of the season for the Sports. A penalty from Ralph Plummer edged the Sports ahead before Pang headed Holt level. With time running out Holt were awarded a penalty which was drilled home by Pang to complete his second hat-trick of the season.
Southwick Sports' mini-revival came to an abrupt end at Somerford as the home team picked up only their second win of the season with a 3-0 success. Gavin Klukowski (2) and Chris Yeo netted for the winners.
In spite of taking the lead against Steeple Ashton, Sutton Benger suffered a 3-1 defeat with two of Ashton's goals coming from Benger players.
Ricky Kershaw nodded Benger in front only for Ian Dawkins to put through his own goal in bizarre circumstances to bring Ashton level. Steve Gawke then sliced the ball into his own net to make it 2-1 and Ashton's third arrived when goalkeeper Tom Berryman's long punt up field bounced once before being crashed home by Lee Hayward.
Division One
BIDDESTONE Social dropped from top spot after losing their first game of the season and their first match since November 17 2002.
Almost a year to the day from their last defeat, it was one game too many for the injury ravaged Biddestone side who were unable to stretch their winning run to 22 games as a 2-1 loss at Maud Heath Sports allowed the Sports to maintain their own impressive start to the campaign as their seventh straight win saw them replace Biddestone at the top.
Maud Heath, whose manager Andy Townsend missed the game due to flu, took the lead after just four minutes when Dean Slade fired them in front. John Lock flicked home from a Biddestone corner to tie the scores in the 27th minute and just as it looked as if Biddestone would take a point from the game Maud Heath were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute which was dispatched with ease by Slade to give the missing Townsend's team a valuable win over their promotion rivals.
The relegation battle between Chippenham Police and Atworth United left the Police firmly rooted at the foot of the table as Atworth 2-0 winners.
Trowbridge Harriers' roller-coaster season continued. A 3-0 home win against Colerne FC sees Paul Edwards' side move up into fifth place.
Division Three
FOLLOWING All Cannings B's resignation from the league, Parsons Nose look to be the biggest winners while Bradstone Rovers' loss of the four points they gained from two victories over Cannings has seen them slip to bottom of the table.
Parsons Nose are now five points behind leaders Four Seasons but have played three fewer games.
Unaware of Cannings' withdrawal, Parsons Nose led 4-0 thanks to four goals from Wayne Bailey against Bradstone Rovers who rallied late on and got back into the contest thanks to a hat-trick from Rob Lymath, but no matter how hard they tried Bradstone were unable to add another goal and at the final whistle they lost out 4-3.
Hare and Hounds showed that last week's performance against The Duke Corsham was no flash in the pan as they followed up that 3-2 win with a 2-0 win over the previously high flying Corsham Park Rangers. Late goals from Niall McLean and Paul Revening were enough to see the Hounds home.
Leaders Four Seasons had Jason Cole dismissed after just 10 minutes but still proved too strong for a Potterne side who looked capable of inflicting Dave Austin's team with their first defeat of the season.
It was not to be as goals from Marcus Young (2), Paul Maddox, Steve Hunt and Jason Richie gave the frontrunners a 5-2 win. Darren Brown and Johnny Emm's first goal in the league could not save Potterne.
Sir Audley's Arms overcame the handicap of having goalkeeper John Witts sent off after just eight minutes to defeat Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club 4-1. Kieran Smith scored all four goals for the Arms.
A goal from Old Lane United's leading hot shot Ben Husband was unable to save them from a 3-1 defeat by Westbury Rangers B, whose goals came from Shane Rendell (2) and and Dave Jones.
Division Four
THERE were convincing victories for all the leading clubs, with Virgin Mobile leading the scoring charts as they hit 13 without reply against KSM.
Ian Standing led the way with four goals, Mark Hynes, Lee Jones and Justice Ofosu-Apeasah hit two apiece and Dave Kempthorne, Kevin Challis and Lee Weissenbruch added singles.
Early pacesetters King Arms recorded their highest win of the season as they crushed Plough 11-0. Scott Askew was top scorer of the day with five of his team's total. Tim Coombes (2), Dean Murden, Matt Minns, Jamie Iles and Brad Rawlings, with his first goal of the season, made it a day to forget for the Plough, Rawlings goal was the club's 50th of the season.
Classic FC hit seven goals without reply against Rowde. Dayle Townsend curled Classic in front before adding another three to take his tally for the season to 10 - not bad for a player who has also played a number of games in goal.
Kevin Bridgeman (penalty), Mike Outen and Nick Still were the other marksmen.
FC Bradford followed up last week's excellent cup victory over Semington Rovers with a comfortable 5-1 defeat of Old Road Tavern.
Robin Walker netted two, with Lee Radwell, Steve Bryant (penalty) and goalkeeper Aaron Harford, also from the penalty spot, scoring, with Martin Woolford hitting the Tavern's consolation in the dying minutes.
After suffering six consecutive defeats Pack Horse Rangers earned their first victory since mid September. They did it the hard way by coming from behind to defeat North Star B 2-1.
Nick Bloodworth gave the Star an early lead which was cancelled out by Phil Clark. Dan Jackson was Rangers' match winner when he headed home Craig Dore's corner late on.
Fascia Graphics returned to winning ways with their first points in five outings. White Horse FC, who looked to have turned the corner after an abysmal start, were undone by a Graphics side who were thankful to Jamie Farquharson who hit two of their three goals in a 3-1 win. Andrew Palmer bagged the other, with Julian Putt replying for the Westbury side.
