DA4380P12SOUTH Wilts Mencap stalwart Anne Trevett was the winner of one of the three Salisbury Newspapers awards up for grabs at the Salisbury and district chamber of commerce and industry presentation ceremony.

Ms Trevett (65), of Lower Road, won the Avon Advertiser Volunteer Award, presented to her by Salisbury Newspapers publisher Bill Browne.

The glass trophy, whisky glass, certificate and cheque for £250 were awarded to her for her voluntary work as development officer of South Wilts Mencap and services to the Learning Partnership and Salisbury College, of which she is a member of the board of governors.

Ms Trevett told the Journal: "I wandered into the Mencap charity shop in Catherine Street eight years ago, just to ask a question, and was invited to help out.

"Since then, I have been producing the local Mencap newsletter and coming up with new ideas and projects as development officer.

"The volunteers at the charity shop are just wonderful - they come up with the money and I spend it on new projects.

"We are currently working with Salisbury district council on improving sports facilities for people with learning difficulties."

Ms Trevett's work with Mencap led to her appointment as a Salisbury College governor and subsequently as a member of the Learning Partnership.

"I love my voluntary work so much and it is wonderful to be a part of Salisbury," she said.

The other two Salisbury Newspapers awards presented by Mr Browne were the Avon Advertiser Long Service Award and the Salisbury Journal Emp-loyee of the Year Award.

The Long Service glass trophy, a whisky glass and cheque for £250 were presented to Brian Joy, who is parts manager with Hayball Motorcycles, Churchfields.

Mr Joy, who is due to retire at Christmas, has worked for Hayballs for 50 years.
