A THIEF walked into a shop owned by TV antiques expert Paul Martin in Kingsbury Street, Marlborough and helped himself to a clock worth £1,600.

The shop was being run by an assistant when the early 1900 wall-mounted clock was stolen.

Police believe the shop was unattended when someone entered and took the clock last Thursday afternoon.

The shop door has a bell but when the assistant, who was in another room, heard the bell they thought it was Mr Martin returning.

Later it was discovered that the mahogany clock, made by Woolleys of Bristol, had disappeared from the shop where it had been displayed.

Mr Martin, host of the Flog It antiques series on television, runs Paul Martin Antiques, formerly the Table Gallery, in Kingsbury Street.

PC Mark Kuklinski said the clock must have been carried to a waiting vehicle, either in Kingsbury Street or round the corner in High Street.

He wants to hear from anyone who saw a clock being carried in the town between 3-5pm last Thursday. His number is (01672) 512311.
