I WRITE concerning a letter I wrote to the Gazette on August 15 concerning my family's search for the child of a cousin of mine who was shot down over France during the Second World War, Pilot Officer W J (Jim) Morcombe.
We are no closer to tracing the "missing" person, however as a result I have been contacted by two people who are also interested in searches.
I have also been in touch with a third person, a gentleman also from Jim's squadron, though he did not know him.
They have all been most helpful and I have received information about the plane crash, also information regarding the burial site of the lost airman in Lachalade, France and the local community's involvement in commemorating these young men.
This information has meant a great deal to myself and the wider family here in Australia.
I just wanted to let you know that although we have not achieved the result we would have hoped for, we have appreciated the interest and input of those who have been in contact with me.
