CHARLIE Griffin believes the Bluebirds have to cut out the individual mistakes ahead of tomorrow's crunch match at Merthyr Tydfil.

Defensive errors have cost Chippenham valuable points in the last few weeks and the former Swindon Town striker knows it is time to tighten up.

He said: "In the first half last week we made a lot of mistakes and gave them a three-goal start. This has been the story of our season.

"If you give a team like Stafford three goals then it is very hard to get anything out of the game.

"At our level if we give the ball away then teams are going to punish us."

Chippenham travel to Merthyr Tydfil tomorrow at the bottom of the Dr Martens League Premier Division and Griffin is hopeful extra work on the training ground will help them to a much-needed three points.

He said: "We have been working hard on trying to get things right this week and we need to take this into the match tomorrow.

"It is a big game for us because we need to pick up three points as soon as possible. It was a good game last time we played them although I got sent off. I'm hoping that doesn't happen again."

Caretaker manager Adie Mings has now lost both league games he has been in charge for, although he did oversee a victory over Swindon Supermarine in the Wiltshire Premier Shield, and Griffin admits the players feel they have let Mings down.

"The lads are gutted for Adie. He is putting all his heart into the job and he is out there giving 110 per cent. Now everybody needs to do that and hopefully we can stop giving silly goals away.

"We have a bit of experience in the team and we need to push them back to stop Merthyr's threat because last time they did look very threatening."
