WEIGHTS in the Ivy House midweek open event were well down, with anglers battling a cold north easterly wind.
Mick Gale, of Chippenham, won with an all-carp catch weighing 30lb 1oz, taken on pole fished expander pellets on a 14 hook.
Ivy House matchman Dave Smith was second with a carp catch weighing 26lb 4oz taken on pole-fished pellets on a 14 hook. Third prize went to Alan Smith, of Ivy House, with a carp catch weighing 23lb 10oz, with Chris Derrick in fourth place with a carp catch weighing 20lb 5oz.
The Ivy House open match at the weekend produced better sport.
Richard Baston, of Swindon Tribe, won with an all-carp catch weighing 75lb 6oz, taken on pole-fished soft pellets on a 14 hook.
Runner-up was Team Sillybait matchman Clayton Hudson with a carp catch weighing 46lb 8oz, taken on pole-fished pellets on a 14 hook.
The colder overnight weather put the fish well down at Merritts Lake for the Lavington match on Sunday and weights were well below average.
Dave York, of Bradford, won with an all-carp catch weighing 8lb 1oz, taken on pole-fished red maggots on an 18 hook.
Bob Gould, of Melksham, used the same tactics to tempt a carp catch weighing 7lb 10oz to take second prize.
Brian Ellis, of Melksham, was third with another catch of small carp weighing 7lb, taken on pole-fished red maggots.
Other placings: 4 John Cooper, Lavington, 6lb 8oz; 5 Bernie Jones, Trowbridge, 5lb 8oz; 6 John Hibberd, Chippenham, 3lb 12oz.
Airsprung gained a comfortable victory in their inter-club with Royal British Legion on the Avon at Barton Farm on Sunday with a weight of 22lb 4oz 8dm to the visitors' 13lb 12oz.
Individual honours went to Wayne Henley, of Trowbridge, with a mixed catch of tench and roach weighing 5lb, taken on feeder-fished red maggots on an 18 hook. Adrian Parrish, of Trowbridge, was second with an all-roach catch weighing 4lb 4oz 8dm, taken alternating with pole and waggler fished red maggots on a 20 hook.
He was followed by Richard Stainer, of Trowbridge, with a mixed catch of roach and perch weighing 4lb, taken on pole-fished red maggots on a 20 hook.
The Wilts Angling open match fished at Todber Manor on Sunday produced reasonable weights after an overnight frost.
Dean Adams, of Bradford, took second prize with an all carp catch weighing 32lb 5oz, taken on pole-fished sweetcorn on a 14 hook.
He was followed by Pete Neate, of Holt, with another carp catch weighing 29lb 14oz, taken alternating with pole-fished sweetcorn and pellets.
Other placings: 4 Hugh Evans, Colerne, 27lb 11oz; 5 Rob Hunt, Melksham, 27lb 6 oz; 6 John Sibley, Blandford 20lb 3oz.
The Avon at Staverton fished well below its best for the Trowbridge match on Saturday.
Colin Gittings, of Trowbridge, won with a catch of small roach and chub of 6lb, taken on pole fished casters on a 20 hook.
Ian Willetts, of Bradford, was second with another bag of small roach and chub weighing 3lb 2oz, taken on stick-floated red maggots on a 20 hook.
