THE POISON scare at Westbury Dairies looks to be over after an extensive investigation revealed no contamination had been found in the milk supply.
The investigation was triggered when a rogue dairy farmer called the company on November 3 claiming he had poisoned a delivery of milk. He said this was in protest for being made bankrupt.
Environmental health experts from West Wiltshire District Council isolated all supplies and halted production. But following two weeks of searching no evidence of poison was found.
Westbury Dairies announced on Monday that it had resumed normal work.
The plant, which changed hands from United Milk last October, has released its first products since the threat was made.
Wiltshire police are considering whether the poison warning was a malicious hoax.
A spokesman for Westbury Dairies said: "This has been a challenging period, and the financial costs will not be clear for some time.
"We are delighted with the speed at which our incident plan was put in place, enabling us to trace and isolate potentially contaminated milk very quickly."
