CHIPPENHAM Town caretaker manager Adie Mings has accused some of his players of not being up to the standard of Dr Martens Premier League football.

Mings has been put in temporary charge of the Bluebirds while the search for Tommy Saunders' successor goes on, and he was furious with Saturday's performance.

Mings said: "You just can't legislate for the things that went on in the first half. That was probably the most inept performance I have ever seen from a Chippenham Town side since I have been back here.

"It is a massive wake-up call for me and it has highlighted the problems that me and Tommy Saunders have had since the start of the season.

"Some of the players just aren't good enough. The new manager that comes in will have an easy task because he knows the players that will not be up for the job.

"It won't be difficult to whittle down what he thinks are the best to keep and the ones who have to go."

Chippenham have now picked up only 14 points in 18 games and are languishing at the bottom of the table.

They started the season with the aim of finishing in the top 13 and earning a place in the new Conference Two league next season but Mings says there will need to be a big improvement for that to happen.

He said: "There are three leagues in this league. You have got the top six sides, who are very good, then the group who you would like to think we could compete with, and then the bottom group, who we seem to be in at the moment.

"Lack of ability to play at this level has cost us dear. On this showing we are way off the pace. It will take a massive injection of confidence to get ourselves out of the situation we find ourselves in."
