THERE will be excitement, tension and exhilaration as rugby fans across town pray for glory in tomorrow's World Cup climax.
The air will be filled with the sound of the rugby anthem Swing Low, Sweet Chariot rolling out from eager fans in pubs, living rooms, factories and offices.
From 9am, all eyes will be on England's first World Cup final clash for 12 years.
Across town, the flags are coming out as supporters prepare for the showdown against Australia.
With hundreds of fans planning to enjoy a traditional English fry-up and a few beers during the early morning match, supermarkets are expecting a rush on sales.
Graeme Sadd, 38, fresh produce manager at Tesco's Ocotal Way store, has ordered in extra supplies.
He said: "We have ordered extra supplies of sausages, bacon, eggs, beer and lager in anticipation. A lot of people are also buying rolls and burgers."
Staff at the store will be watching the game in the canteen.
Fans in Swindon have been hard pushed to buy England shirts.
Allsports in the Parade sold out of the £75 World Cup shirts two weeks ago, while Hargreaves Sport store in the Brunel Plaza has only two left.
Assistant manager Alison Arthur, 21, said: "They are like gold dust, as soon as we get one in it goes. People have been very disappointed at not being able to get one. Most people need large and extra large because they are made of tight fitting material."
Many pubs have applied for early licences and will offer traditional English fry-ups and bacon butties to temper the effects of a few early morning pints.
The Steam Railway in Newport Street, Old Town was the scene of jubilant celebrations when wonderboy Jonny Wilkinson booted England to victory over France last weekend.
Staff, who have decorated the pub with flags, balloons and ribbons, are hoping for a repeat of the elation.
Bar worker Carl Edwards, 22, said: "We have had telephone calls all week asking whether we are opening. We are expecting up to 125 regulars, and are also doing breakfasts.
"There was a great atmosphere during the game against France. I think we will trounce the Aussies."
Some of the most passionate cheers in town will be coming from Swindon's rugby stars.
Swindon Rugby Club players and supporters will gather at their pavilion in Greenbridge Road to witness England's fate.
Club steward Debbie Evans said: "We have a big screen especially for the match, and will also be serving breakfast."
