A SWINDON footbridge is to be replaced in a £99,000 project.
Work to replace the Roussel footbridge, which spans a brook adjacent to Dorcan Way, begins on Monday, December 1.
It is scheduled to last for about 12 weeks, although this will include a layoff of a fortnight to cover the Christmas period.
The work is being carried out on behalf of the council by contractor, Britannia Construction Ltd.
The new bridge will be four metres wide. When complete, it will carry part of the planned cycle track which, the local authority intends will eventually stretch from Covingham Roundabout to Faraday Road.
The track is currently being constructed in a separate project. Council spokesman Gavin Calthrop said: "During works, pedestrians will be diverted over the adjacent road bridge via a temporary footpath. Appropriate guard railings will be installed to segregate pedestrians and vehicles."
